Mass Eye and Ear researchers have reported positive results from a phase I trial of cultivated autologous limbal epithelial cell transplantation (CALEC) for patients with significant chemical burns to the eye. The stem cell therapy was found to be safe and well-tolerated, offering hope for restoring vision in patients with severe corneal damage.
